Randoms… part two…

Ok, so I’m back.  I’m off work for a week and I am soooooooo happy about it!  I’m worn out!!!!!!  I figured I would get more sleep working nights, but that isn’t the case.  I didn’t realize how much effort it takes to get Sweet Pea up in the mornings and fed and dressed and IN A GOOD MOOD (she’s not a morning person and it takes her a little while to get good and awake… and happy)…  So, it takes a while for us to get to school.  I get off work at 6:30am and we are lucky to make it to school by 9:00!!!  Haha!!  My goal in the beginning of all of this was to drop her off at 8 every morning and be home and in bed by 9…  Bahahaha!!!!  Sleep until 3 (6 hours of sleep)… Pick her up by 4…  But that isn’t exactly how it goes.  Some days I don’t get to sleep until 10:30 or 11.  But anyway…  On with the bullets and randomness…

  • I have decided to do the lady bug theme for Sweet Pea’s birthday party.  I was looking up stuff on Etsy and I found lots of cute things with lady bugs.  (And I’m trying to steer away from so much pink in general… And if it wasn’t for the lady bugs, we would probably be having a pink and black zebra party!  Haha!)  I have ordered her birthday outfit.  It think it’s going to be adorable!!!!!  I’m super excited about it.  I’m about to order her invitations so I can get them out in the next couple of weeks.  I think I’ve decided to just have it outside here at our house, if the weather permits.  If not, we will probably take it inside at Maw Maw’s since her house is bigger than ours.  So, I’m getting excited about her birthday stuff finally.  :-)
  • She is counting to 10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Believe it or not… I was shocked myself!!  I was going to do a video of it tonight, but she was in an ill mood (I’ll explain that in a minute…)  So, I will try to get that tomorrow or sometime this week.
  • Her ill mood tonight…  I have decided it’s time to take the pacifier away.  I took it away from her when I got her from school today.  She asked for it on the way home, but I told her it had to go bye bye and she was a big girl!  She fussed a little, but I started singing to her and getting her to count for me and she forgot about it until we got home.  She was in the floor flopping around fussing for it at one point.  But I was strong and held my ground.  I didn’t give it to her until I put her in bed tonight and she pretty much went to bed instantly!  (She didn’t nap much at school today.)  I’m going to wean her off of it at night.
  • As far as school is going, we keep getting a better report every day.  They have changed teachers a couple of times, so I think that kind of threw her off a little.  I think they have a really good one in there right now though.  For a little while there, every time I checked the cameras, she would be crying and begging the teacher to pick her up and it just broke my heart.  But in the past few days with the new teacher, I have actually seen her down playing some, so that makes me feel much better.  Her new teacher has two young children of her own and seems to be very loving and caring (not that the teacher before that wasn’t).  But the other teacher doesn’t have children of her own and doesn’t have that motherlyness to her (<----how do you like my new word?!  Ha!).  So I think that made a big difference.  The owners of the school were thinking the same thing before I ever mentioned anything to them about it and were contemplating changing teachers anyway.  So I’m kind of glad they changed teachers.  I’m also going to send her 5 days a week for the next 2 or 3 weeks (starting Monday) to see if going every day is going to help get her used to it quicker.  I hate to send her when I’m off work, but I might just do it for half a day on my off days.  So anyway…  I’ll keep y’all posted on that!

I guess I’ve rambled enough for now.

Preschool and the sickies…

Well…  Sweet Pea started preschool on the 18th.  She cried and cried when we left.  Surprisingly, Mommy and Daddy didn’t (Daddy teared up a little… He told me he did).  I think I had prepared myself enough for it though.

I didn’t think to take a picture of us with Sweet Pea before she started crying.  But here is a picture of her and her teacher.

IMG_4051

Bless her sweet heart!!!!  She was pitiful.  They said she finally calmed down after a little while.

She went three days that week.  Saturday she woke up with a fever…  I knew she would get sick when she started school, but I didn’t think it would be THAT quick!

IMG_4072

IMG_4064

She spent the night with my MIL Friday night and Saturday morning she said she could tell she was running fever and she had a snotty nose and was coughing.  She met Mr. Right at the local urgent care clinic (I was at work, but was getting off soon).  I went over there after work and they swabbed her for flu, strep, and RSV.  The RSV was the only thing positive.  So, they gave her an antibiotic and what they said was a cough syrup.  Tuesday rolled around and she still wasn’t any better.  Her fever was still around 102ish.  So, I called her pediatrician and set up an appointment for Wednesday morning.  He said she had an ear infection in both ears and prescribed her a stronger antibiotic and sent us on our way.

Wednesday night, I was talking to my mom and I picked Sweet Pea up to sit her in my lap and she was burning up big time.  So I checked her temp and it was 103.7 (the highest it’s been).  Mom said to take her to the ER.  So, that’s what I did.  I called Mr. Right to let him know what I was doing.  He had just started his shift at work.  He headed back to be with us (even though I told him it wasn’t necessary).  They did a rectal temp on her and it was 104.9!!  The doctor came in and talked to me a little bit… He checked her out… Left the room… Nurse came in and gave her some Motrin…. (I could have done that at home…)  Doc came back… Said she had strep (even though he never swabbed her????), said her ears were infected (as if I didn’t already know that….) and sent us on our way…  Needless to say… I was NOT impressed with her treatment… And this is the hospital I work at!  I’ve made my mind up though.  We will not be treated there anymore.  Ever.

  IMG_4109

So, her temp came down some.  And then Friday rolled around…  She still wasn’t any better (and yes I know that RSV take some time to get over… I know this.)  Dr. Mom (my mom) said I needed to take her back to the doctor because her cough was sounding really bad.  And it was bad.  I was afraid she had bronchitis or something.  Sooooo………

We went back to the urgent care clinic (the first place we went) and I told them that she wasn’t any better.  We finally got her fever gone, but everything else was the same or worse.  The did an xray on her chest.  It was clear (thank goodness!)  They swabbed again for flu… Negative.  They did another CBC (complete blood count) on her.  It was normal.  So….  I guess this virus is just hanging around longer than I expected.

They did give her an antibiotic shot and told us to take her off the Augmentin because it was giving her bad diarrhea.  She is barely drinking anything as it is… so we don’t want her to get dehydrated.  They prescribed her some steroids, so we are giving her those.  And other than that…..  We are just waiting it out…

Hopefully this virus will go away for good SOON!!!!

Oh… and if it isn’t bad enough that my child is sick.  So is Mr. Right.  He went to the doctor today and he’s got a bad sinus infection.  They gave him two shots and some prescriptions.  Maw Maw is sick.  My MIL and her husband are sick.

SICKIES GO AWAY!!!!!!!

Luckily I haven’t come down with anything… yet.  My throat was a little sore this morning and I’ve got a little drainage in the back of my throat, but I feel fine.  As long as it doesn’t morph in to anything else, I’ll be fine.  I need to get back on my multivitamin!

Anywho…  Hope everyone else is staying well!

I need to vent…

…just for a few minutes…

I’m going to vent on a few topics…

First…  Food.  Who would’ve guessed?!  Ha!
Sweet Pea drives me absolutely insane when it comes to meal time.  I seriously dread it.  She is the pickiest (is that even spelled right?) eater I’ve ever seen.  The child STILL eats 2nd and 3rd stage baby food veggies because sometimes that is ALL we can get her to eat.  Seriously.  And the few times we can get her to eat something new, she chews it up real good and then spits it out.  I’m thinking… “Well… it must have tasted good enough to chew it that long….  Why not go ahead and swallow it?!”  But no….  she spits her food out all. the. time.  And it drives me insane.  People tell me all the time, “She’ll eat when she gets hungry…”  Blah blah BLAH!  I’m so sick of hearing that.  I just don’t want to take her to the doctor next week for her check up and them tell me that she hasn’t gained anything in the past 3 months.  I know she is growing… it’s obvious.  She looks taller, she feels heavier…  She looks healthy.  I just don’t want them to pull out their stupid charts and start talking about percentages and crap…  I really just want to find a new pediatrician, but I don’t want to take the time to do it.

Second…  Milk.  I guess this could have gone under the food category, but I feel like it deserves it’s own paragraph.
She likes milk just fine, but I feel like she doesn’t drink enough.  Again… people tell me, “if she gets thirsty enough, she’ll drink it…”  I know this!!!!  But I guess the doctors have me so freaked out with their charts and percentages that I obsess over her intake.  First of all, I’m not even going to lie.  I give her a bottle twice a day.  At nap time and at bed time.  Why?  Because it is such a struggle to get ANY liquid in her some days.  On the days that she doesn’t want to drink her milk, I try juice.  But she pretty much hates any kind of juice.  She always makes a sour face like it’s too tart or something, and then she doesn’t want anymore.  I just don’t want her to get dehydrated.  I guess it’s a good thing she likes to eat ice…….

And third…  Tantrums.
What exactly makes the two’s so terrible???  Because the one and half mark is getting kind of bad….
She is starting to throw tantrums and I am NOT liking it one bit!  Pretty much any time we tell her no or stop her from doing something that she doesn’t need to do, she starts stomping her feet, whining/crying, ect….  Oh and if we pick her up when she is throwing one of these fits, she starts kicking and bucking like a mule!!  It’s kind of funny, but it gets old very quickly.  Another thing…  She was doing really well with holding our hand and we walk somewhere, but now, she HATES to hold hands.  If I tell her to hold my hand while we walk to the car or over to Maw Maw’s, I’ll grab her hand and she just yanks it away and starts heading another direction.  And when I grab it again… she starts throwing one of her fits.  She’s little Miss Independent when it comes to some stuff.

But anyway…  those are some things that are getting under my skin right now.  I guess it’s just part of having a kid…  I try not to complain on my blog much, especially about my child… because I’m so blessed and lucky to have a beautiful and healthy child.  But things aren’t always going to be like a fairytale… and I like to “keep it real”…  ;-)

Cut the umbilical cord, please…..

Saturday night, I had a freaking panic attack.  Sweet Pea had spent the night with my MIL Friday night.  Usually, she will bring her home when I get off work so I can spend the afternoon with her and then she will come back and get her so she can spend the night again on Saturday.  (At least that’s how we did it last weekend and it worked out great.)

Sweet Pea usually takes a nap with me when I come home from work.  Well… she had fallen asleep at MIL’s around 11ish and woke up around 1ish.  So, when I talked to her, I told her that there would be no point in bringing her home because she had already had a nap and I NEEDED one myself.  So I told her I would come down to her house after I woke up and see Sweet Pea for a little bit.

I went to lay down.  Took my nap, which happened to last longer than I had planned….  I woke up.  I called my MIL.  I was so exhausted and it was already 6pm.  By the time I got dressed and drove over there, I would have only been able to stay for 30 minutes or an hour before I would have had to turn around and come home and get in bed again.  So… I told her that I was too tired to even get off the couch at the moment and that I would just see Sweet Pea Sunday after I got off work.

I somehow found the energy to get up and make myself something to eat.  And about 30 minutes later I realized that this would be the first time EVER since Sweet Pea’s been born that I have been away from her for more than 24 hours.

I went in to panic mode.  Big time.  I started getting short of breath.  I started crying.  I told Mr. Right to call his mom and tell her to bring Sweet Pea home.

And he did.

I know my MIL probably thinks I’m insane.  But seriously, I was having a panic attack.  I was feeling like a horrible mother because I was too tired to go see her when I said I would.  I felt like I was throwing her off on my MIL, even though she offered to keep her so I could get some rest.

But after Mr. Right called her, I started to calm down.  I just wanted my baby girl.

And just for the record… Every time we take Sweet Pea over there to have a date night or whatever… I don’t even make it to the end of the road before I’m telling Mr. Right to turn around because I want my baby back.  Of course, he always says, “She’s fine.”  And I know she is well taken care of and she has fun over there…  I guess I’m just selfish?  I don’t know…

I guess I just need to cut the umbilical cord……

Maranda’s Baby Shower!

Here are a few (haha!) pictures from the baby shower weekend.

These first few pictures are from Friday afternoon when Sarah and I had to get the room set up how we wanted it and search the whole church to find table cloths…  Maranda babysat Sweet Pea in the nursery while we took care of business.  She needed some practice!  Ha!

Maranda and I were goofing off at Motherhood Maternity while waiting to check out.  I have a fake belly and I look twice as big as she is…  Oh… I finally got a swimsuit.  I bought it at Motherhood because it was the most comfortable thing I could find.

These pictures are from Saturday at the shower.  I love the fresh hydrangeas!!!  They came out of Sarah’s grandmothers yard.  So pretty!

SDC13744

All of the food wasn’t out on the table yet… but you get the idea…

SDC13746

The diaper cake I made.  Not too bad for my first one!  And it was super easy!!

SDC13751

Yummy (and cute) cupcakes!

SDC13752

These are the mints (?) I made…  I used almond bark and peppermint extract.  And food coloring… of course.  They weren’t that great… but they were cute!  The molds I used were baby carriages and booties.

SDC13754

Everyone just loved Sweet Pea!!  Maranda had to get in her feeding practice while I helped get some food set up.

SDC13755

My mommy!

SDC13758

Yay!  Gifts!

SDC13762

This little girl in the blue dress didn’t like Sweet Pea at all.  Sweet Pea was being very social and trying to make friends with her at one point.  But the little girl ran over to her mom every time Sweet Pea came close to her and shot her the stink face!!  It was soooo funny!

SDC13765

Here’s the stink face!  Haha!

IMG_2132

We were trying to tell them to give each other a bye hug, and they got really close, but then Isabella would run to her mom!  Haha!

Then it was time for gifts!!

Sweet Pea was completely worn out after playing and running around all during the shower.  I couldn’t keep her shoes on her, so she ran around barefoot…  She has nasty feet!  I made sure to wipe them off.  I don’t like nasty feet.

IMG_2139

I literally can’t turn my back on Maranda when she is around my child.  Because this (see below) is what happens…  We went to All Fired Up after the shower.  And she paints my child’s face while I have my back turned.  Oh!  And Friday, she was giving her Diet Coke!!!!  What the crap?!  I was ticked off to say the least!!  I told her not to give it to her, and as soon as I looked back over there, she was giving her more!  UGH!!!  Poor Charli hasn’t got a chance and she hasn’t even made it in this world yet!!

IMG_2142

Sweet Pea was getting in to everything at All Fired Up.  It is a studio where you can go and paint acrylics and they fire them and they come out all shiny!  Anyway…  She kept trying to get stuff of the shelf and I didn’t want her breaking stuff, so the nice lady that worked there got her some paper to color on.  She didn’t really color…. but she liked pulling out the crayons.

IMG_2144

This is what I painted for her room.  She helped me!

Me, Erica (Maranda’s friend from college), Maranda, Sarah, and Sweet Pea!  Oh, and baby Charli in the womb!

The shower turned out great!  We had lots of fun and Charli got lots of goodies!!!  I can’t wait for her to get here!  Only 2 and a half months to go, Maranda!
