Baby boy stuff…

I’ve been buying a little bit here and there for our little man.

We still have a long way to go though considering, everything I have bought so far will probably be worn and spit up on in just one day.  Haha!  As you can see, we have been buying mostly footed pajamas, because I figured that is mostly what he will wear during the first months of his life anyway…  It’s going to be cold and it just seems easier that way.

My mother in law said she has bought him some stuff and she bought the blue outfit above when we were shopping today.  The next thing I’m going to buy is blankets… considering we will be having him in December.  I mean, I’m sure he would look cute in the pink blankets I already have from Sweet Pea… but I figured I would buy him a few boyish ones.  ;-)

On to baby names….

Mr. Right and I had finally picked out a baby name.  I was really loving it.  I even started saying it when we would talk about him (in the presence of just us, of course).  The first time I used it, I thought it didn’t sound right… but I figured that was because it was new to me and I would just get used to it with time…

Not so much.

After a few times of saying it (over the span of a few days), I decided that I just don’t like it.  It was not meant to be our baby’s name.  So, we are back at square one.

I’m thinking that the other name we had picked out is going to be THE NAME.  I love it and Mr. Right really loves it (it was his favorite name out of them all) but I was hesitant about using it because it’s the name of one of my coworker’s sons.  I’m not really into using the same names as people I know or “stealing” someone’s baby name… But I’m to the point of “I don’t care anymore!” and I’m going to use what I like.  And the way I see it… Our son and my coworker’s son are not the same age… they will not be going to the same school or be in the same grade…  so it doesn’t really matter.

So anyway…  I just have to run the new name by Mr. Right and see what he thinks.  I’m sure he won’t have a problem with it, considering it was his #1 name anyway.  I’m hoping this will be the end of “the name game”… because I am ready to get something monogrammed!!!  :-)

First stitches…

Tuesday night, my sweet girl went from this happy little child, enjoying her ice cream…

….to this pitiful sweet baby that has a big boo boo on her head.  (I know she doesn’t look pitiful in this picture because she is smiling, but I didn’t take any of her when she was crying.  Just didn’t seem right…)

We had just finished supper and were chillin’ in the living room, as we do every night…  Sweet Pea had just finished her ice cream cone and was her usual hyper self right before bed time.  Seriously, this child gets so wired at night time!  And no, we don’t feed her ice cream every night.

We were about to give her a bath, and she was running around in circles in front of the tv.  I guess she went around one too many times, and got dizzy.  She fell into the entertainment center and hit her head.

When she falls, I never jump up immediately, because I don’t want to react to something that may be nothing.  She falls all time time and usually is never hurt.  So, when she hit the entertainment center, I just sat there for a second to see if she was really hurt.  She started crying, and I jumped up.  I picked her up and turned her around to me, and she had blood pouring down her face.

I ran her to the bathroom and told Mr. Right to get me a clean wash cloth.  I held some pressure on her head for a minute and then looked to see how bad it was.

There was no doubt in my mind that she was going to need stitches.  Her poor little head was busted open and she was just crying her little eyes out.

Mr. Right got me a wet wash cloth so we could clean her up.  We put a big band aid on her head and got her dressed to go to the ER.  I decided to take her to the children’s hospital in Bham, rather than the one I work at.

We piled in the car and headed out.  She cried a good bit after we left the house…. until I was able to find a pacifier in her diaper bag.  Thank you Jesus!!!  Haha!

We ended up being in the ER for a total of about 2 hours and 45 minutes.  They had to put some numbing medicine on her head and put the clear bandage over it because the band aid we put on her was not holding blood anymore.

They had to put her on a papoose board to keep her still while they were suturing her head.  She was not happy about that AT ALL!… and that is where I lost it too.  I started crying with her.  I was the strong one up to that point (Mr. Right lost it on the way to the hospital).  I didn’t want her wrapped up like that, but I knew it was necessary to get it done as quick as possible.  The suturing only lasted about 5 minutes (even thought it seemed like forever!!)  She cried and screamed the entire time.  I just wanted to grab her up and love on her.

The doctor put a tasmanian devil band aid over the stitches (which seemed to fit the situation perfectly…haha) and we were done.

Needless to say, she will not be running in circles in the house ever again.  Nor will she be running in the house period!!!  I have had to stop her from doing both several times since then.  I’m hoping she will eventually understand why she can’t do these things!

I’m hoping this will be the first and last set of stitches for my baby girl.  Chances of that are probably slim considering we are going to have a boy in the family soon…  :-)  Lots of praying!!  Haha!

GTT…

Yesterday I had my 3 hour glucose tolerance test.

It didn’t go as well as I hoped it would.  Well… I’ll just explain it to you…

At my doctor’s office, you just go back at your time to be stuck and any nurse that is available checks your glucose.

The same nurse did my fasting glucose, gave me my drink, stuck me at one hour and stuck me at two hours…  I passed my fasting and my first stick, but my second stick was a little high.  Fortunately, you can fail one stick and still pass the test.  So… I had high hopes!

My third stick just so happened to be at lunch time (12:05), so there was hardly anyone back there.  An older lady nurse saw me standing there and told me she would do it.

She informed me before she stuck me that she was a diabetic…. and her secret is the thumb…  I said… Ok, do whatever, I don’t care.  I was just really hungry at that point and wanted to get out of there!

Well, she sticks me and we wait….  The results popped up a few seconds later and it was 144!  I let out a big sigh of relief because it had to be under 145 for me to pass!

She handed me my check out paper, and I walked off smiling.

I go to the check out counter and as I am talking to the check out girl about whether my blood work and pap smear results had been faxed from the other doctor (they haven’t, and I’m pissed about that!!!), the nurse comes and pops her head around the corner and gives me “the look”…  She asks me to come back to the nurses station when I’m done.

I knew by the look on her face, something wasn’t right…

So, she tells me that after I walked off, she popped my cartridge back in the machine and it read 148.  She went and told the doctor and the doctor asked her, “and why did you do that?!”  Her response to him was, “well, I’m a diabetic and I’m a curious kind of person…”

So, he tells her to call me back there and he wanted to talk to me about watching what I eat.

At that point, I wanted to punch her in the face.  ANY OTHER NURSE would have just thrown away the blood when they were done.

So… I’m waiting in the room and the doctor comes in.  He says, “well, we can call you normal or abnormal.”  My response, “I passed the test!”  He laughed and said, “By the skin of your teeth.”

He was going to make me go to gestational diabetes classes and do the whole sugar check crap on a regular basis…  But I kind of talked him out of it.

He pretty much told me to cut out sugar from my diet, and the bad carbs that turn into sugar (stuff like potatoes, white rice, white bread, etc)…  I have to check a fasting glucose once a week, and if it gets over 105, I have to let him know.

So, you might as well say that I am on the stupid gestational diabetes diet, even though I technically passed the test.  I’m not too happy about it at all.  I’m very bitter about it.  I feel like I can’t eat anything that I would normally eat.

My game plan is for me to eat better… not necessarily go by the diet completely… because technically I did pass the test!!!!……..  But I am going to cut out the sugar.  I already eat wheat stuff a lot, so that won’t be too much of an adjustment.

The holidays coming up are going to suck because Mr. Right’s aunt always makes tons of sweets.  And I won’t be able to eat them!  Halloween is around the corner and I LURVE candy corn.  Hershey’s makes these awesome candy apple kisses that I was addicted to last year.  I might have to buy a bag to have AFTER I give birth.

But anyway… That’s that…  I go back to the doctor in about two weeks… and every two weeks from then on (until the due date gets closer…)  Time is flying people!!!!  Our baby boy will be here before we know it!
